Just a quick blog today. It’s been a while since I wrote anything and I want to make sure I don’t fall into the whole “well it’s been so long it doesn’t matter anymore” trap.

It has been one wild year for me so far. Personally and professionally I have tried to do something I haven’t done in a long time. I am saying “Yes” to me.

What does that mean exactly? It means not putting the brakes on my ambitions and my dreams. It means not allowing myself to succumb to my inner fears and doubts.

On a professional level this has lead to me taking some big risks. I am doubling down on betting on me. I believe that I am a talented guy with many skills that can be utilized to advance a career in the arts. I am spending this year saying “Yes” to all the opportunities that are presented to me.

So far they have yielded amazing results both on The IntelleXual Network and for my film career. The network has gone from a simple “recorded in our dining room” set of podcasts at the beginning of the year to a full fledged celebrity interview outlet including a YouTube channel as well. We now produce three shows a week and are interviewing authors, actors, models, musicians, motivational speakers… it’s amazing. We’ve branched out into Red Carpet coverage and have had the likes of Jon Voight, James Cromwell and Bruce Boxleitner on our programs. It’s amazing, and it has all blown up in less than three months time. And my friends and my family are part of this amazing ride, and it’s a ride that has been made possible by me saying yes. I said “yes I can handle interviewing celebrities” to myself and then pursued that with my co-producers. When an opportunity presented itself to actually start doing it by interviewing Martha Davis and Allison Iraheta at the Belly Up here in San Diego… in person… I was nervous, but still said “yes” and did it. Everything that has happened for us on the network since then has been a direct result of that moment where I decided to say “yes” to myself.

Additionally I have also committed myself to the pursuit of my film endeavors. I left my “safe” office job and have resumed pursuing my number one passion of filmmaking. This has already resulted in my being hired as the Supervising Sound Mixer on the independent film “In The Mind’s Eye” and I am shooting a new short film in April and am in discussions to join a decently budgeted Spy/Thriller film shooting in Europe later this year.

On a personal level I am also saying “yes” on me and have started going out more. Extending myself into social situations that I have avoided for years. Seeing people I have ignored for years, or who I have lost contact with. I have been more socially active this year than I have been in the past 5 years combined. I’ve even had a few dates. It’s awesome.

I also, finally, said “yes” to going to the Philippines with my Mom. For the first time in 30 years I went back to the Philippines and reconnected with my Filipino family. It was the trip of a lifetime and I am glad that I jumped at the chance to go this year. It was important to me that I made the trip with my Mom, and with her continually declining health I had to finally admit to myself that time was running out. I will forever be thankful that on January 1, 2014 I said “yes” and scheduled that trip.

There is so much in store for me this year. Even today. And I plan on continuing to say “YES” enthusiastically to all the possibilities that present themselves to me. Saying “no” is so simple, and ultimately leaves you in just the same place you were already in.

So I encourage you to go out there and try saying “yes” a bit more often.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Hi. I’m David, your host at The Intellexual Network. I’ve been a fan of podcasting for years – having first been exposed to podcasting as a Radio & Television Communications student in the early 2000s. I started my first podcast in 2005 as a part of the marketing blitz for a feature film I produced here in San Diego called “What’s The Vig?” I’ve tried more personal shows off and on over the years, but in 2013 I found my voice with the “Voices of ’93 Podcast” which I hosted and produced for my high school class as a celebration of our 20 year reunion. The success of this show, and the overwhelming response of my classmates to continue it past the reunion, has inspired me to round up my extremely talented family and friends and launch The Intellexual Network. A place where we can produce the types of shows that we would listen to, and we think you’ll enjoy.
